A Post from Noah...

Hi everyone! I have been having so much fun here! I took my first steps with this walker toy that my parents bought me. (My mommy posted a picture already). I think soon I will be able to chase the cats all by myself. Right now my daddy chases them with me.

My mommy bought me a backpack carrier at a garage sale last week. I rode around on my dad's back all day. I liked being able to see above everyone. I didn't like that I couldn't sleep in it. I got really crabby and made everyone carry me on our hike.

I have another tooth and this one is on the top. I like to clank my top an bottom teeth together. This really drives my daddy crazy.

I like to day dadadada dadeee a lot. My mom keeps saying mama to me and I know what she is doing. I'll say mama some day, it is just so much fun to tease her.

We met a girl from Sicily at church on Sunday. She told us that the name Noah is not used in Italy because it is a very important name. You would not name your baby Jesus or Abraham either. She then continued to say that it fitted me however, because I have a very wise look. My parents thought that was a one of the best compliments they have ever gotten. I'm glad to make them happy.

My parents are getting closer to picking the dates of our trip back home to the states. I really miss my friends Brianna, Riley and Zachary. I can't wait to play with them again.

I gotta run, we are going shopping for rain gear!

Love you,
Noah

Ted and Noah the morning of St. P's Day Posted by Picasa

Opps...It has been a while!

Wow, sorry it has taken so long to write. Let's see... the whole family was sick last week. First me then Noah and then Ted. We took Noah to the doctor again, but she said it was just a little cold and he should be fine. And he is. He was teething a lot last week, so that could be the reason for all the snot.

He finally cut his third tooth. It is the top left one. I wish the right would come in soon because it looks a little funny, still cute though.

A few weeks ago I joined an American group/club here. We went to a playgroup last week and met some other American moms and also some wonderful English mums. It was nice to talk to other moms living here. The playgroups are divided into 0-9 months and 10 months and up. Because Noah is only 8 months we went to the 0-9 month group. Well, Noah is a little more mobile then the other babies (because they are younger) and he was trying to crawl all over the other babies. He was so excited to see other small people. I was thinking that maybe next month we should try the older group. I don't know.

Noah and I went to the Zoo yesterday with the American moms, Robyn and Anne Marie. Noah had so much fun looking at the seals, giraffe, turtles and monkeys. To the disappointment of his father, he slept through the cat house and the bears. We will have to go back.

Also last week we went to another playgroup that a friend from church suggested. It is an English speaking international playgroup. It was a ton of fun. I really liked it and it is weekly, so we will have something to do every week if we like. I also met some great American and English moms there.

Theses playgroups are a really great way to meet people. I can't imagine what I would be doing if I didn't have Noah here to get me in.

Wardrobe claims another victim...

So, our landlord came by yesterday and looked at the science experiment on our bedroom wall and concluded that we probably have a broken pipe. Apparently this has happened before to another apartment. She brings the handyman over a bit later and he thinks it is just the grout that is leaking. He reseals the tile and now we are forbidden to shower for 24 hours. Ted is very excited.

I was told to leave the wardrobe away from the wall for a few days, so the wall can breath.

I blame the wardrobe for concealing the leak until it was out of control. We now blame the wardrobe for taking Ted down in the middle of the night. The WR has these keys instead of handles (German furniture really gets me sometimes...). See you can lock the doors and also open the doors with the key. Therefore the keys must remain in the door to serve it's handle purpose.

Noah started crying around 5:30am and we decide that Ted was going to get him and bring him to bed with us. A second later Ted was down for the count. He had not realized that the WR was so close to his face when he jumped out of bed. The WR got him real good.

It was too early for Ted to care that his eye was bleeding. We all climbed into bed.

Here is the morning after picture. Once again, hope your week is going better than ours!

Venting Monday...

So, Friday Noah and I went to our first quasi playgroup. I volunteered to help the treasurer of the Mother's Corner of the American Womens Club of the Taunus (the hills I have talked about). The MC has scheduled play groups, story time, parties and mom only outings. On Friday, we went to a board meeting. They even provide care during the meetings.

Noah did so good playing with the other babies and toys. It was kind of sad to sit across the room and realize how independent he is getting. I know he is not packing for college any time soon, but still... So, anyways...Noah picked up some new friend and I pick up a cold.

Ted really does work for the weekends. And he wants to travel around as much as he can in his spare time...no time for colds... I was a trooper on Saturday and Sunday (see below). I did pretty good until Sunday night. I think my nose almost blew up. I was sneezing and coughing most of the night.

I know what you are thinking...what a baby, BUT I am not finished. When we were getting ready for bed Ted noticed that the wall behind our wardrobe was falling off. Yes, like crumbling to the floor. We pulled the wardrobe back and most of the wall was bubbling and crumbling and there was MOLD! Ewwwwe!

We came to the conclusion that the bathtub was leaking, either the pipes or the tub itself. I then freaked out that we were living with mold. About the same time, Noah started screaming from his bed. He is getting his top tooth and has been having little fits lately. We decided to have him sleep with us. However, I refused to let him sleep with the mold, so the whole family moved to the pull out couch. Cats too!

So, Noah and I alternated sneezing and coughing for screams and cries (he is also stuffy now, so that woke him up too). By morning I was exhausted.

So, German pull out couches are not like the US and I don't really have the time to explain it. Regardless, I am not a fan. I was trying to put the stupid thing back together and I smashed the crap out of my middle finger. Almost 12 hours later and I still don't have total feeling back. I am for sure gonna loose the nail.

So, to recap...Noah and I are the snot twins, he is teething, we have mold in our bedroom and I am gonna loose a finger nail. All in all a great Monday! Hope this makes your Monday a little bit better!

Flooding river... Posted by Picasa

Koblenz, Germany

On Sunday, after church we decided to take a drive up the upper Rhine river. This is the German wine country. We ended up in Koblenz. This is where the Rhine and the Mosel rivers meet (two very important wine and industrial rivers, but more importantly wine). The rivers were crazy high. It actually was flooding onto the streets in some places. We again walked around, saw some churches and had some lunch. To some this may seem rather boring, but really it isn't...I promise. Come and see!

Worms, Germany

On Saturday we headed down to Worms, Germany (maybe 130km away). It is a beautiful old (6000 years old) city. Much of the places we visit are. I suppose one the the most significant events that happened in Worms was that it was here that Martin Luther was sent into exile. The monument that you see above (and below) was where Luther had his confrontation with the imperial council. The monument was erected in 1868.

It was raining the entire drive over there, but as soon as we exited the parking garage the rain had stopped. It was perfect. We walked around had some lunch and eis (ice cream) for dessert. We headed home in time to do some shopping.

Paige is coming!!

Yesterday my friend Paige booked her trip to come see us! We are so excited! She will be here in April. It is during a week that Ted has a training in Berlin. So, we all are going to go to Berlin for a few days.

Today we tried to go to church, but apparently there was some sort of running race. All the streets around our church were blocked off and of course we were already running late. We drove up to Bad Homburg and walked around there. It was really cold and foggy. We went to the schloss (palace) and walked around and then went a got a kaffee (coffee). It was still fun. We can't wait to go there during the summer. There is this large park that surrounds the schloss.

We then drove to Oberusal and into the Taunus mountains. We drove around there and found some neat hiking trails for the spring and summer.
